Parent's Review of Seoul International School in Seoul, Korea
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Seoul International School
In what town or city is this school located?
Seoul
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
Calls itself international, follows American curriculum but 95% of the students are really Korean
What grade levels are represented at this school?
K-12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Bus, a few come by car.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Classrooms are in disrepair and not up to an adequate standard, given the level of fees paid. Elementary students get few extra curricular activities, not sure about older kids.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
There is nothing in place as the majority of students are really Korean and this is their home country.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
Very few opportunities for parents to be involved, there is a room mother system but this is monopolized by the Korean mothers.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
If they are a Westerner I would advice them to get their kids into SFS as soon as possible, this is a school for Koreans and my child does not fit in.
