Parent's Review of Misr American College (MAC) in Maadi , Egypt

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Misr American College (MAC)

In what town or city is this school located?

Maadi

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American

What grade levels are represented at this school?

K-12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

There's an excellent bus service with air-conditioned, modern and comfortable buses secured with security guard and bus supervisor available for the students. Yet, many either walk on their own if they live close and others get dropped off and picked up by their parents. All options are open.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

There are a variety of facilities in MAC. To start off, the campus covers 10,000 square meters, with 6 floors. There's a canteen for the students to buy snacks from. There are also three science labs, three playgrounds, two libraries, two art labs, computer labs, air conditioned/heated classrooms, media and technology center, smart boards, photography studio, large theater, band/vocal performances room, clinic, Learning Support Center, transportation services, volleyball court, pingpong area, basketball court, ballet rooms, soccer court, handball court, track, and many more. The sport tournaments are usually held at the Olympic Village of Maadi though. As for the extra-curricular activities, there are school clubs, on-campus activities, and off-campus trips. Students can join student council, helping hands, press club, National Honor Society or National Junior Honor Society, Tempo Club, Bowls Club, Choir Club, or French Club. I'd recommend you open their website mac-orouba.com or go on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misr_American_College.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Given that most if not all the teachers are expatriated from Canada or North America, my children have not faced any transition issues. Also, because the environment is not too big like American public schools, the administration was able to fulfill their needs and plan their future the way the children feel comfortable with. Many graduates have traveled abroad upon graduation to Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, Qatar, UAE, US, or UK.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There's obviously the Parents Teachers Student Association for updates and suggestions. You also get to meet the teachers if any issue was raised about your child. You'd always be welcomed to discuss anything with any teacher, upon request.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

I would put a thumbs-up and tell you to go ahead. Misr American College is the ideal school for your children. Its small community, foreign teachers, polite students, elite class, good reputation, effective methodologies, warm welcome, and strict yet relaxed atmosphere make it the ideal elementary, middle, and high school for expatriates and Egyptians.
