Parent's Review of NIST International School in Bangkok, Thailand

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

NIST International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Bangkok

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

IB

What grade levels are represented at this school?

EY-Year13

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Unfortunately most students go to school by car in a soi that cannot hold the traffic. The traffic congestion is a nightmare and one of the reasons we regret enrolling at the school.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are good for an urban campus and there are lots of activities. Unfortunately there is not enough space for an average child like mine to be able to develop. Others school like the British and American international schools have far more space and run more activities for the enthusiastic non team member.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

If your child is average very little is done to help them improve. But if your child has problems then there are lots of resources to help them develop or at least get through.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

The parent group is good but unfortunately the school governors do not appreciate having an alternate parent body that might have the support of parents so they are controlled.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

I would look carefully at the British school Bangkok Patana and the more American school ISB. Both have much more experienced and wiser heads and are not run by a Thai board of governors. NIST is no longer as international in outlook as it was, increasing Thai student numbers and there are rumours that one of the leading Board members wants to buy the school. The lower end of the school has much better leadership than the middle and high school section which lacks credibility amongst most of the parents.
