Parent's Review of Alexander Robertson School in New York,
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Alexander Robertson School
In what town or city is this school located?
New York
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
American
What grade levels are represented at this school?
K-5
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Varies - ARS has great transport links - subway, bus, car, walk. ARS is by the 95th Street Subway on Central Park West so some parents drop kids off at 8:30 to be in work by 9.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
School is small but uses Church and Central Park. Music and after school club available.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
ARS has children from diverse backgrounds in New York. The class sizes are small so we feel our two children have had individual attention to help them adapt to the different learning style and curriculum than would have been available in the other large 'elite' schools we visited.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
Friendly PTA that meets monthly. We really enjoyed the annual Spring benefit.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
We moved to New York in February with a five year old and an eight year old, and this was the only Private School that would consider taking both our children. The rest had long waiting lists and required you to pass the ERB (NY Educational Records Bureau) a year before. ARS was the most flexible in listening to our situation and trying to accomodate us. If you are moving to New York from the UK we would recommend considering ARS.
