Parent's Review of Colegio Gran Bretaña in Bogota, Colombia

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Colegio Gran Bretaña

In what town or city is this school located?

Bogota

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

British, International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Pre-K to

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

The school provides a bus route which picks you up wherever you live, though a small number of kids have drivers or will be picked up by their parents.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are absolutely lovely. The architecture is reminiscent of a vacation at an Hacienda out in the country, and the entire campus is very open and relaxed. There is a variety of extra- curriculars avaiable (Secondary students can participate during the school day on Tuesdays and Thursdays), including soccer, tennis, softball, rugby, horseback riding, swimming, etc. The majority of these sports take place off campus but transportation is provided through the school.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The only problems I can imagine one having with integration into the curriculum would be if you were not coming from another British or International school and were entering into the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of high school, since this school holds mandatory IGCSE and IB examinations in the 2nd and 4th years, respectively.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Parents are encouraged to involve themselves in committees and help out in clubs and sports.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Do seriously consider this school, especially if your child is from an English- speaking country. Almost all of the Secondary teachers are native English speakers from Australia, the UK, the US, etc., so the school's English programs are top-notch. The teachers are stellar, the academics challenging, and the community welcoming and diverse.
