Parent's Review of European International School Ho Chi Minh City (EIS) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
European International School Ho Chi Minh City (EIS)
In what town or city is this school located?
Ho Chi Minh City
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International, IB curriculum
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Kindergarten to Grade 12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Most of the children are brought to school by private drivers. There is also a school bus service which serves all districts in Ho Chi Minh City. A few of the secondary students also walk to school or go by bicycle.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Me and my wife have been visiting different schools in Ho Chi Minh City. I clearly have to admit that the school's premises are not so modern as those from other international schools. But most of the other schools resemble office buildings. At the European International School however, which is constructed as an educational village in Thao Dien (District 2), the campus has much more character. There are many trees on the campus and the children have enough space to play. Besides, the class sizes at the European International School are generally smaller than those at other schools. This means that the teachers can meet the students individual needs much better. That was also a main reason for choosing this school for our children. The school offers plenty of after school activities for the students to choose from.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The school follows the IB curriculum and since the language of instruction is English, the children receive English language support if needed.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
There are many events for the parents at EIS. There is a regular's table for parents once a month, morning coffees and fun days just to name a few of them.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
I would certainly make an appointment for a private tour on campus, talk with the principal and maybe some of the administration staff to get a first-hand impression of the school. The campus is so lovely that you really have to see it with your own eyes. Everytime I'm on campus I feel like being in a different world, and not in buzzing Ho Chi Minh City.
