What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Bangalore International School BIS

In what town or city is this school located?

Bangalore

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International, accredited by the University of Cambridge

What grade levels are represented at this school?

From Pre Primay to Grade 12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

By School Bus

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The Campus is not very big but the facilities are nice. Ther is no swimming pool but the school made an agreement with a sports compound near by. The kid can do swimming, tennis, karate an dance. There is a soccer field and a basketball field. Extra curriculum activities availabe are violin, guitar, drum, swimming, tennis, karate, dance, art & craft. Art department and Music department are very strong.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The ESL class is been very helpful. Both my kids received a one to one attention. In less than 6 months they were capable of talking, understanding and writing enough to take part in class activities.... and this from zero! The friendly environment and the kindness and patience of the teachers has been amazing. My kids really like their teachers and their school friends.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

No there is not parent teacher organization but this is not a problem for me. If I need to talk to the teachers or the coordinators or the principal I can just make an appointment and come to school. Parent - teacher relationship is extremely easy. Every year they organize 2 big event "Festival of Light" and 'Music Event" and parents and families are invited to take part. It's an amazing get together with a lot of fun and joy.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Go for it. You will not be disappointed! If you are looking for good quality, long experience (the school was founded in 1969) and familiar environment BIS is the school for you!
