How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
There is bus/tram service, but most children are driven by parents, and there is a lot of carpooling.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The school is small, but it has a cafeteria, computer room/library, gymnasium, dormitory for nursery/pre-school, a large paved area with wheeled toys/pogo sticks, etc., a large football field, and shady grass areas. There is choir, ball sports, Chinese lessons, circus training, and zumba, in addition to the weekly swimming classes up through grade 3. They also put on Christmas and end-of-year shows each year, have several school outings, Sport Day, and parties for Halloween, Carnaval, Kermesse, etc.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The curriculum is 100% in English for pre-schoolers, but as most of the children are native French speakers, our child became bilingual around half way through his first year in Petite Section. From first grade on, the curriculum in 50/50 English and French, but they provide FLE (French as a Foreign Language) and English "catch-up" classes for children who aren't fluent in one (or both) of the languages. They also have one hour of Spanish per week, starting in Petite Section (age 3).
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The parent-teacher association is quite active and works hand in hand with the school's administration. The parents regularly form teams for local sporting events and races and participate in the name of the association (Les Enfants d'Eridan). In general, the parents are very friendly and socialise together off school grounds.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
If you want an intimate, enriching environment for your children, with small classes and high teacher engagement, this is a good school. If you are looking for an elite school which puts its reputation first, you would be disappointed here.
