Parent's Review of Hanoi International School in Hanoi, Vietnam
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Hanoi International School
In what town or city is this school located?
Hanoi
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International, IB PYP/MYP/DP, IGCSE
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Reception to Grade 12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Buses, although many families have private cars with drivers or go by motorbike
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The school is in a six story building in the inner city, very close to the embassies and not too far from the West Lake, where most expats live. They have a volleyball/basketball court, playground, share a soccer pitch with the school next door, and go off site to use the pool. All sorts of extra curricular activities are available from sports to the arts. For a small school, they have everything you could want for your child's school.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
Thankfully, our children were already in the PYP system so there was not much of a transition. I'm not sure how this would translate to repatriation or moving to a city with different curriculum.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The PTA is great. Very active, engaged community.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
It is small, about 300 kids, but the great thing about it is the close sense of community and the school's open door policy. I would say that 90% of the teachers are excellent and well qualified. Once in a while there will be one or two that fall through the cracks. You just need to watch out for those. This is common in ALL schools anywhere!!!
