Parent's Review of Canadian Trillinium School in Dhaka, Bangladesh

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Canadian Trillinium School

In what town or city is this school located?

Dhaka

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

Local

What grade levels are represented at this school?

K2-12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Private car

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are extremely basic at this small school. The school is in a converted house on a small block, so not really conducive to outdoor education. The very small playground is concrete covered and there aren't alternate locations to play so the children tend to spend alot of sedentary time indoors. The 'library' wouldn't have more than 30-40 books. The fees are high and not matched by the quality of product that was being delivered to the students. It's trying to be an international school, owned by local business people who are not from an education background so is very poorly managed. Very high annual staff turnover, in the order of 60-70% each year which is very concerning.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The teachers are helpful, but this isn't a focus for management.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There isn't a PTA and this seems to be the way that the management like it.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

I would look at all alternate options before seriously considering this institution. The teachers try hard and do the best they can in the circumstances, but are unfortunately let down by management. The majority of the teaching faculty are young graduates. This is not a school i'd be sending my children back to, better off at a local Bangladeshi school paying one tenth of the price.
