International

Cycle, walk, tram, school bus, local bus, driven by parents.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The facilities are average. Extra-curricular activities seem somewhat limited. Pupils are advised to join a local sports club. The school has school teams for football, basketball, field hockey and tennis. These take part in international tournaments.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
My children came from an IB school and did not need any help in this respect. They did sit an entry test to asses their entry level for Maths, English and Dutch The school does have a very active and friendly Learning Support and Counselling Department which can offer help where needed.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The school has a link with the Hungry Mind, a social club run by and for expats, located just behind the school. Both the Primary (PTA) and the Secondary (PA) have a parent-teacher organization. Every year group has a parent representative. These representatives meet with school management regularly and deal with issues brought forward by the parents. The detailed minutes are distributed by email. The school seems to take this very seriously.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
Date: April 2017 Every school has issues and so has ISH. The school is big and growing; Secondary currently has 8 classes per year group. Having said that, my children feel at home at ISH. I am impressed with the way the school has responded to issues I raised. Their response was professional, efficient and personal. I can only recommend this school. Just make sure to sign up in time, the waiting-list can be long!
