Parent's Review of TASIS England in Thorpe, Surrey, UK

Submitted by Yankeebrit

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

TASIS England

In what town or city is this school located?

Thorpe, Surrey

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International, US

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Early Years (age3-4) - 12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

A variety of ways. There are organized buses for families living outside of Thorpe who don't or can't drive. Many families drive & there is ample parking. A few walk or cycle within the neighbourhood.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are what clinched it for my high schooler. Beautiful campus, great sports & arts/theatre facilities. So many after-school activities there's something for every type of student. Weekend activities for boarders, to which day students are also welcome. Great community spirit at the school with frequent family events.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The family support at TASIS is exceptional in our experience (just starting our 2nd year). Our son chose TASIS b/c of the IB program and the support in preparation for IB is personal to him & v knowledgeable. There is a v active parent body focused on supporting other parents in all stages of expat/repat life.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

The Parent org is v active even before school starts. Incoming families are paired w current families if requested, Frequent small & large group discussions are held throughout the year, as well as pub and coffee socials (some grade specific). Parents have almost constant access to staff, & there are several conference & social events to meet the staff. We have found son's teachers unfailingly helpful & supportive.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Visit if possible; it is a great campus. Ask as many questions of TASIS as you need to - Admissions staff are extremely helpful & supportive. Read the web site and the school's Facebook page to get a feel for the spirit of the school. If you want a school that treats students with respect & as individuals, and helps them fulfill their potential, we highly recommend TASIS. My son is loving TASIS (& he came from a fab school in the US), and we are thrilled for him.
