International Community School
In what town or city is this school located?
Clementi which is located in the West side of Singapore
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
American curriculum, international
What grade levels are represented at this school?
k4- grade 12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Bus, train and walk.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The school has basketball courts, volleyball courts, soccer field, playgrounds, library, and an airconditioned gym/auditorium. My kids enjoy extra-curricular activities like Mincraft, lego club, four-square, tae kwon do, coding, crafting, pottery and more.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The teachers are an important factor in helping my kids transition from my home country's curriculum to the American curriculum. Teachers here go the extra mile to make sure my kids understand what they learn. The social aspect is especially important. Kids are taught to be inclusive, kind and caring. Eventhough it is a Christian school, my kids have friends from different faiths are respectful of each others beliefs.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
There is a parent teacher fellowship in school. Mothers of different cultures (Americans, Koreans, Australians, Japanese, Germans, Malaysians and more) all come together to support the school with bake sales, do fitness together, and just come together to figure out how to support each other in bringing up their kids.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
This is a small school (about 400 students) without the extra bells and whistles (no swimming pool, no tennis court.) But the teachers are genuinely fantastic. I believe 95 percent of them are American. And they take the extra mile to get to know each of their students. It's a great place to plug in. You can't really get lost in the place. And I feel it's truly international. Kids here are kind. I see High Schoolers give high-5's to Elementary kids because they have a buddy system. Kids say hello when they pass by you. Teachers are friendly. It's a great culture to bring up kids with good character with a healthy balance of academic.
