Parent's Review of International School Hannover Region in Hannover, Germany
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
International School Hannover Region
In what town or city is this school located?
Hannover
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International, with a lean towards British in secondary and a lean towards American in primary.
What grade levels are represented at this school?
pre K-12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Tram, walk, or car
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The facilities are ok, but investment is being made to improve. Extra-curricular activities are somewhat limited. There after-school groups that they do have are great, but there are not that many.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
None
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
I found that there were a good number of opportunities. There is a decent PTA made up mostly of moms that followed their husbands to a job in Germany. A lot of them also plug in to the International Women's groups throughout the city (Not affiliated with the school). There are also endless opportunities to volunteer at the school in teachers classes.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
As an American coming over to Germany, it was hard to understand the IB perspective at first. But I committed to it learning it and now I feel it is much better than a public school in the US. The school is friendly and welcoming, and Hannover is an amazing place to raise a family.
