Sydney
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International

Preschool-12th

Combination, some car, some bus, some train
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Facilites are adequate, play areas good, classrooms clean, cared for. There are changing after class activities each term, can include sports, crafts, theatre, cooking, chess, beading, games, yoga.
We also very much like the international flavor of the school, there are children from all over the globe!!
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The teachers at AIS are wonderful, they work with the children to find out their current levels and then provide appropriate class work and extra help if needed. If your child needs to move ahead, they work with that as well.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
There is a Parent Volunteer group. The group runs the school canteen, provides help with school activites, plans class parties, raises funds for extras for the school. There are also outings planned for parents who are available during the day, such as bush walking, tours, lunches, sightseeing, classes. There is also a Board of Governors made up of parents from the school.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
I would tell them that while the campus it self may not be gleaming brand new (It is housed in lovely old heritage buildings) it is important to look at the teachers and education that will be provided. Our child has been extremely happy at the school, and has been encouraged and helped to work at her level. I think it is something when you can say that your child NEVER wants to miss shool. It is a very caring environment.
