An Expat Talks about Moving to The Cayes, Belize

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

The Cayes

What advice would you give someone preparing to move to your area about the actual move, choosing a neighborhood and finding a home?

Before moving to The Cayes, expats should be aware that the official language is English, although Spanish and Creole are also spoken. Expats should also be aware that the currency used is the Belize Dollar, and that US Dollars are widely accepted. Additionally, expats should be aware that the climate in The Cayes is tropical, with temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to the mid-90s Fahrenheit. Expats should also be aware that the cost of living in The Cayes is relatively low, and that the area is known for its beautiful beaches and diverse wildlife. Finally, expats should be aware that the healthcare system in Belize is not as advanced as in other countries, and that medical insurance is recommended.
