An Expat Talks about Moving to Atlanta, Georgia

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Atlanta

Name three things that you wish you had brought and three you wish you had left at home.

Wish I had Irish tea, Irish butter, my father maybe. I wish I had left at home all electrical items.

What advice would you give someone preparing to move to your area about the actual move, choosing a neighborhood and finding a home?

Internet is fabulous and there are excellent sites available now, expecially expat sites. Expats are usually in the know or they know someone who is???

What type of housing do you live in? Is this typical for most expats in your area?

Town home, typical for most expats is apartment/flat/townhome. Note, a townhome in the states is about the size of a normal street street house in Europe, mine is 2,500sq ft, which is 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms kitchen dining and living rooms.

How did you choose your neighborhood and find your home or apartment?

Came to visit first and looked at several with a real estate broker, always rent in neighborhood before buying, which I did.

Are your housing costs higher or lower than they were in your home country? What is the average cost of housing there?

much lower
