Expat Advice: Culture Shock in Quepos, Costa Rica

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Quepos

What are the most challenging aspects of the new culture?

Expats in Quepos often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture. Many locals speak Spanish as their primary language, and while some may be able to communicate in English, it is not as widely spoken as it is in other parts of the country. Additionally, expats may find it difficult to adjust to the slower pace of life in Quepos, as well as the more relaxed attitude towards punctuality. Finally, expats may find it difficult to navigate the local bureaucracy, as the paperwork and processes can be quite complex.
