Expat Advice: Culture Shock in Manila, Philippines

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Manila

What are the most challenging aspects of the new culture?

Expats in Manila often find the traffic and pollution to be the most challenging aspects of the local culture. Additionally, the language barrier can be difficult to overcome, as English is not widely spoken in the Philippines. Furthermore, the cultural norms and expectations can be difficult to adjust to, as they are quite different from those of many Western countries. Finally, the cost of living in Manila can be quite high, making it difficult for expats to find affordable housing and other necessities.
