Expat Advice: Culture Shock in Malacca, Malaysia

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Malacca

What are the most challenging aspects of the new culture?

Expats in Malacca often find the language barrier to be one of the most challenging aspects of the local culture. Malacca is a multi-cultural city, and many of the locals speak a variety of languages, including Malay, Chinese, and Tamil. Additionally, the local customs and traditions can be difficult to understand for those who are not familiar with them. Expats may also find it difficult to adjust to the slower pace of life in Malacca, as well as the hot and humid climate.
