Expat Advice: Culture Shock in Savusavu, Fiji

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Savusavu

What are the most challenging aspects of the new culture?

One of the most challenging aspects of the local culture for expats in Savusavu is the language barrier. English is not widely spoken in the area, so it can be difficult for expats to communicate with locals. Additionally, the local culture is very different from what many expats are used to, and it can take some time to adjust to the different customs and traditions. Expats may also find it difficult to find familiar products and services, as many of the items available in Savusavu are unique to the area. Finally, expats may find it difficult to make friends with locals, as there can be a sense of distrust between the two groups.
