Expat Advice: Culture Shock in Monterrey, Mexico

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Monterrey

What are the most challenging aspects of the new culture?

Expats in Monterrey find the language barrier to be one of the most significant challenges, as English is not widely spoken. Another challenge is getting used to the slower pace of life which can be quite different from their home countries. Additionally, the locals tend to be quite traditional and conservative, which can be an adjustment for some expats. Understanding local customs and learning the vernacular can take some time, further challenging the experience.
