Expat Advice: Culture Shock in Todos Santos, Mexico

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Todos Santos

Did you "commit" any embarrassing or humorous cultural blunders? If you did and you'd like to share them, please do tell!

It is important to remember a few cultural courtesies when visiting Todos Santos. It is best not to wear revealing clothing in public, especially around religious or sacred sites. Another important thing is to be mindful of the volume of your voice, and to always be respectful of the locals; this includes not negotiating prices aggressively or giving opinions about religion and politics. Additionally, it is important to remember to take off your hat and to say hello when you enter a shop. Finally, keep in mind that traditionally, Mexicans greet each other with a kiss on the cheek, so avoid offering a handshake unless it is significantly more socially and culturally appropriate.
