Expat Advice: Culture Shock in Todos Santos, Mexico

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Todos Santos

What are the most challenging aspects of the new culture?

Adapting to the language barrier can be a challenge for expats in Todos Santos. Many locals only speak Spanish, so understanding urban and rural slang can be difficult to learn. Additionally, the cultural norms and way of living can also be unfamiliar, as Todos Santos is a small, tight-knit coastal town with strong traditions, making it difficult for outsiders to become fully accepted into the community. Furthermore, the fact that Todos Santos is a tourist town and the economy is reliant upon foreign visitors makes the cost of living slightly more expensive than other Mexican cities.
