Welcome to Broome! If you're planning to move to Broome, congratulations on taking the first step towards a new adventure. While there are many things to think about before you leave, such as visas, housing, and transportation, it's important to remember that once you arrive, the fun really begins. In this article, we'll introduce you to some of the best sites, restaurants, and nightlife that Broome has to offer, as well as provide tips on recreational activities and making friends in Broome.

Broome, is a coastal town in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, known for its unique natural beauty and rich history. One of the most popular attractions is Cable Beach, a 22-kilometre stretch of pure white sand, set against a backdrop of red ochre cliffs and fringed by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Here, you can enjoy a camel ride at sunset, a truly iconic Broome experience. Another must-visit is the Broome Historical Museum, which offers a fascinating insight into the town's pearling history. The Japanese Cemetery, the resting place of over 900 Japanese pearl divers, is also a poignant reminder of Broome's multicultural past.

For nature lovers, the Roebuck Bay is a haven for migratory birds and a prime spot for birdwatching. The Staircase to the Moon, a natural phenomenon where the full moon rises over the exposed tidal flats of Roebuck Bay, creating the illusion of a staircase leading to the moon, is a sight to behold. Gantheaume Point is another natural attraction, where dinosaur footprints over 130 million years old can be seen at low tide. The Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park and Animal Refuge offers a chance to see crocodiles and other Australian wildlife up close.

Broome's restaurant and nightlife scene is as diverse as its landscape. Matso's Broome Brewery is a local favourite, offering a range of award-winning beers and a menu featuring local produce. The Aarli is known for its Asian-fusion cuisine and extensive wine list, while Zensai offers authentic Japanese fare. For a more casual dining experience, the Courthouse Markets offer a range of food stalls every Saturday. The Sunset Bar and Grill at Cable Beach Club Resort is the perfect spot for a sundowner, offering stunning views over the Indian Ocean.

For nightlife, The Roey is a popular spot, featuring a sports bar, nightclub, and beer garden. Divers Tavern is another favourite, offering live music, sports screenings, and a relaxed atmosphere. Meanwhile, the Sun Pictures outdoor cinema, the world's oldest operating picture gardens, offers a unique movie-watching experience under the stars.

Recreational activities in Broome are largely centred around its natural attractions. Cable Beach is a hub for water sports, including swimming, surfing, and fishing. The beach is also the starting point for many whale watching tours during the migration season. For those interested in diving, the Rowley Shoals Marine Park offers some of the best coral reef diving in Australia.

On land, the Broome Bird Observatory offers guided birdwatching tours, while the Broome Camel Safaris offer a unique way to explore the beach. For a taste of local culture, the Short Street Gallery showcases contemporary Indigenous Australian art, and the Pearl Luggers Museum offers insight into the town's pearling industry. For those looking for adventure, the Kimberley region offers a range of activities, from hiking and camping in the rugged wilderness to exploring ancient rock art sites.
