Welcome to Arnhem! If you're planning to move to Arnhem, congratulations on taking the first step towards a new adventure. While there are many things to think about before you leave, such as visas, housing, and transportation, it's important to remember that once you arrive, the fun really begins. In this article, we'll introduce you to some of the best sites, restaurants, and nightlife that Arnhem has to offer, as well as provide tips on recreational activities and making friends in Arnhem.

Arnhem, a city located in the eastern part of the Netherlands, is a treasure trove of historical and cultural attractions. One of the most popular sites is the Airborne Museum 'Hartenstein', dedicated to the Battle of Arnhem in 1944. The museum is housed in a former British headquarters building and offers a comprehensive overview of the battle through exhibits and multimedia presentations. Another must-visit is the Netherlands Open Air Museum, an outdoor museum that showcases traditional Dutch life, with authentic houses, farms, and factories from different parts of the country.

For nature lovers, the Burgers' Zoo is a must-visit. It's one of the biggest and most-visited zoos in the Netherlands, featuring a variety of animals in habitats that closely mimic their natural environments. The Hoge Veluwe National Park, one of the largest continuous nature reserves in the country, is also located near Arnhem. It offers a unique blend of landscapes, including heathlands, sand dunes, and woodlands, and is home to the Kröller-Müller Museum, which houses a large collection of works by Vincent van Gogh.

Arnhem's restaurant and nightlife scene is vibrant and diverse, offering something for everyone. 't Amusement, a restaurant run by a former MasterChef Holland contestant, is known for its creative and beautifully presented dishes. Goed Proeven is a popular choice for its relaxed atmosphere and menu that encourages sharing. For a more upscale dining experience, Restaurant 't Kookhuys offers a fine dining menu with a focus on fresh, local ingredients.

When it comes to nightlife, Café Stout is a popular spot, known for its extensive beer selection and lively atmosphere. Wijnbar Vini is a cozy wine bar with a wide selection of wines and small plates. For those looking for a night of dancing, Club Manhattan is a popular nightclub that plays a mix of music styles.

Recreational activities in Arnhem are varied and cater to a wide range of interests. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, the Hoge Veluwe National Park offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, and wildlife spotting. The park also offers 'White Bikes' for free use by visitors. For water-based activities, the Rhine River offers boat tours, which provide a unique perspective of the city and its surroundings.

For those interested in arts and culture, the Arnhem Museum of Modern Art has a wide range of exhibits, while the Focus Film Theater offers a selection of independent and international films. The city also has a vibrant shopping scene, with the Fashion Quarter offering a range of boutiques and design studios. For a more traditional shopping experience, the Arnhem Market, held on Fridays and Saturdays, offers a wide range of goods, from fresh produce to clothing and household items.
