How to Get a Driver's License in Bosnia & Herzegovina
Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Foreigners who wish to drive in Bosnia & Herzegovina must have a valid international driving permit along with their valid national driving license. The international driving permit must be issued by a country that has signed the 1949 or 1968 convention on Road Traffic. If the foreigner's national driving license is issued by a European Union member state, then they do not need an international driving permit.
Additionally, the driver must have third-party liability insurance. If the vehicle is not registered in Bosnia & Herzegovina, it must have a valid Green Card (International Insurance Card). The vehicle must also meet the technical requirements of Bosnia & Herzegovina, and it must be registered.
It's important to note that the traffic rules in Bosnia & Herzegovina may be different from those in other countries. For example, the use of seat belts is mandatory, and the use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited unless a hands-free system is used. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.03%.
There are no specific requirements that differ based on the city, state, or region in Bosnia & Herzegovina. However, drivers should be aware that road conditions can vary greatly throughout the country, and they should always drive with caution, especially in rural areas and during winter.
