How to Get a Driver's License in Fiji
Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Fiji.
Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Fiji.
In Fiji, foreigners are allowed to drive if they possess a valid international driving permit or a driving license from an English-speaking country. The license must be carried at all times when driving. The driving license must be valid for the class of vehicle being driven. If the foreign license is not in English, it should be accompanied by an official English translation or an International Driving Permit. The driver must also be at least 17 years old.
It's important to note that in Fiji, driving is on the left-hand side of the road. Seat belts are mandatory and using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited. Also, the blood alcohol limit is 0.08%, and penalties for exceeding this limit can be severe.
There are no different requirements based on the city, state, or region in Fiji. The rules and regulations for driving are country-wide and apply to all areas of Fiji. However, road conditions can vary significantly, particularly in rural areas, and during the rainy season, some roads may become impassable.
