Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Martinique.

Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Martinique.

In Martinique, a foreigner can legally drive if they have a valid international driving permit (IDP) along with their valid home country driving license. The IDP is a translation of the driver's home country license and is valid for one year. It's important to note that the IDP is not a standalone document and must be accompanied by the original driving license at all times.

Additionally, drivers must be at least 21 years old and have held their driving license for a minimum of one year. Some car rental companies may also require a credit card for the deposit. It's also recommended to have insurance that covers driving in Martinique.

As Martinique is an overseas department and region of France, the driving laws are consistent throughout the island and do not differ based on city or region. However, drivers should be aware that driving in Martinique may be different from their home country. The roads can be narrow and winding, and local driving habits may take some getting used to.
