Getting a Driver's License in Monaco
Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Monaco.
Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Monaco.
In Monaco, foreigners who wish to drive must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving license. If the license is not in French, it should be accompanied by an International Driving Permit (IDP) or a certified translation in French. The driving license, IDP, or translation must be carried at all times when driving. It's also important to note that Monaco has strict drink-driving laws, with a maximum blood alcohol level of 0.05%.
As Monaco is a sovereign city-state, it does not have different requirements based on different cities, states, or regions. However, it's worth noting that the driving rules and regulations in Monaco might be different from those in neighboring countries like France or Italy. Therefore, foreigners planning to drive in these countries as well should familiarize themselves with the local driving laws.
