Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Namibia.

Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Namibia.

In Namibia, foreigners who wish to drive legally must have a valid international driving permit (IDP) along with their national driving license. The driving license must be in English or translated into English, and it should have a photograph of the holder. If the license does not have a photograph, it should be accompanied by a passport. The IDP and national driving license must be carried at all times when driving.

It's important to note that Namibia follows the left-hand driving system, so foreigners from countries with right-hand driving systems should take extra care. Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers, and the use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.05%, and exceeding this limit can result in severe penalties.

There are no specific driving requirements that differ based on the city, state, or region in Namibia. However, road conditions can vary significantly across the country, with many rural areas having gravel or dirt roads. Therefore, it's recommended to use a 4x4 vehicle when driving outside urban areas. Also, drivers should be aware of wildlife crossing roads, particularly in rural and remote areas.
