How to Get a Driver's License in Paraguay
Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Paraguay.
Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Paraguay.
Foreigners who wish to drive in Paraguay must have a valid international driving permit (IDP) along with their valid driving license from their home country. The IDP is a translation of your home country's driving license and is valid for one year. It's important to note that the IDP must be obtained in the driver's home country before traveling to Paraguay.
Additionally, foreigners who are residing in Paraguay for more than 90 days are required to obtain a Paraguayan driving license. To do this, they must pass a written test, a practical driving test, and a medical examination. They must also provide proof of residency, such as a visa or residence permit, and a valid passport.
As for regional differences, the requirements for driving in Paraguay are generally the same throughout the country. However, the process and fees for obtaining a Paraguayan driving license may vary slightly from one city or region to another. It's always best to check with the local transit authority for the most accurate information.
