Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Singapore.

Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Singapore.

In Singapore, foreigners who hold a valid driving license from their home country can drive in Singapore for up to 12 months. However, after 12 months, they are required to convert their foreign driving license to a Singapore driving license. To do this, they must pass the Basic Theory Test (BTT) in Singapore. The BTT is a computer-based test that covers the basic rules of the road and is conducted in English.

Foreigners who hold a driving license in a language other than English will need to have an official translation of their driving license in English. The translation can be done by the embassy of the foreigner's home country, or by a Singapore registered translation company.

Additionally, foreigners must meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years to drive in Singapore. They must also not be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving license under the Road Traffic Act.

As Singapore is a city-state, the driving requirements do not differ based on the city, state or region in which the foreigner lives. The same rules apply throughout the entire country.
