How to Get a Driver's License in Zimbabwe
Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Zimbabwe.
Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Zimbabwe.
In Zimbabwe, foreigners who wish to drive legally must have a valid international driving permit (IDP) along with their valid national driving license. The IDP must be issued by the same country that issued their national driving license. It's also important to note that the driving license must be in English, or it should be accompanied by an authenticated translation if it's in another language.
Additionally, the driver must be at least 16 years old to drive a light motor vehicle and at least 20 years old to drive a heavy motor vehicle. The driver should also have third-party insurance for their vehicle. It's recommended to have comprehensive insurance as well.
As Zimbabwe is a unitary state, the driving regulations are uniform across the entire country. Therefore, there are no different requirements based on the city, state, or region in which a foreigner lives in Zimbabwe.
