Summary: Driving in a new country can be daunting. These tips offer insight into what to expect when driving in Aarhus.

1. Understanding the Driving Culture

Driving in Aarhus is generally considered safe and straightforward. The roads are well-maintained and the traffic rules are strictly enforced. Danish drivers are known for their discipline and adherence to traffic rules. However, be aware that bicycles are very popular in Denmark, and cyclists have their own lanes and traffic signals. Always check for cyclists before turning.

2. Car Recommendation

Compact cars are recommended for driving in Aarhus due to the narrow streets and limited parking spaces. Electric cars are also becoming increasingly popular in Denmark due to the government's push for sustainable living. There are numerous charging stations around the city for electric vehicles.

3. Parking in Aarhus

Finding parking in Aarhus can be challenging, especially in the city center. Most parking spaces are metered and can be quite expensive. However, there are some free parking spaces available on the outskirts of the city. It's advisable to use public transportation or bicycles for daily commuting and save the car for longer trips.

4. Driving with an International License

Foreigners can drive in Denmark with an international driving license for up to 90 days. After that, you will need to obtain a Danish driving license. If you are from a country within the EU, your license is valid in Denmark. However, if you plan to stay in Denmark for more than 185 days, you should exchange your foreign driving license for a Danish one.

5. Obtaining a Danish Driving License

To obtain a Danish driving license, you will need to pass both a theoretical and a practical driving test. The tests are usually conducted in Danish, but some places offer tests in English or German. You will also need to provide a medical certificate from your doctor. It's advisable to take a few driving lessons to familiarize yourself with the Danish driving rules and regulations.

6. Be Aware of the Weather

Denmark's weather can be unpredictable, with rain and snow common in the winter months. Always check the weather forecast before setting out and adjust your driving accordingly. In winter, it's mandatory to have winter tires on your car.
