Expat Survey: More than 80% of Expats in Germany Enjoy Living There
Summary: Expats in Germany report that they love living in the European nation. More than 80% who responded said that they are extremely or very satisfied with the expat experience there.
Expats generously reported their opinions and shared their insights about living abroad in our 2021 Best Places to Live Survey.
Overall, 83% of Expats, Retirees and Global Nomads in Germany are extremely or very satisfied with the quality of the expat experience in their city.
When asked about their entertainment options (movies, concerts, museums, etc.), 75% of expats, retirees and nomads reported that they were either Extremely Satisfied (50%) or Very Satisfied (25%), which is 10 points higher than the global average of 65%.
As for local dining options, 63% indicated that they were either Extremely Satisfied (13%) or Very Satisfied (50%). That is 8 points lower than the global average.
Survey respondents were also asked about Local Grocery Shopping options, and 89% of respondents said they were either Extremely Satisfied or Very Satisfied, and 67% were either Extremely Satisfied or Very Satisfied with the local fresh food.
When asked about the quality of their local water, 88% of expats globally reported being either Extremely Satisfied or Very Satisfied .
Overall, two-thirds of Expats (75%) reported being either Extremely Satisfied or Very Satisfied with their social life, and 38% said that they were either Extremely Satisfied or Very Satisfied with making friends locally.

"Joined an international club across the border in Basel Switzerland. Wish I would have joined earlier," said one person in Kandern, Germany.
"The locals are sociable and very welcoming," mentioned an person living in Germany.
"I love Stuttgart. Even during the lockdowns, it's easy to get out and walk and bike ride. Many restaurants have started delivery services. When we're not under a lockdown, we have great restaurants, parks, museums, movie theaters, etc," mentioned another person in Germany.
