Obtaining a residency visa in Namibia is not always easy, but our Guide to Residency in Namibia gives newcomers an overview of the steps involved and advice from others who have already navigated the process.

Please note that the following instructions are a general guide and the actual process may vary. It is important to consult with the Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration or a legal expert for the most current and detailed information. Here is a general outline of the steps you might take to obtain residency status in Namibia:

  • Research the types of residency permits available
    • Visit the Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration website for information on different residency permits.

    • Processing times can vary, so be prepared to wait several months for a decision.
    • Keep track of your application status by contacting the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration.
  • Attend an interview (if required)
    • You may be called for an interview with immigration officials to discuss your application.
    • Prepare to answer questions about your reasons for seeking residency and your plans in Namibia.
  • Receive your residency permit
    • If your application is approved, you will be notified and can collect your residency permit.
    • Ensure that you understand the conditions of your residency, such as the need to renew the permit after a certain period.
  • Register with local authorities
    • Once you have your residency permit, you may need to register with local authorities, such as the municipality where you will be living.
    • Provide them with a copy of your residency permit and any other required documents.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information, please refer to the official Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration website or contact their offices directly. Unfortunately, as of my knowledge cutoff date in 2023, there is no direct link to an English version of the website that I can provide. It is recommended to search for the official website using a search engine or to inquire at the nearest Namibian embassy or consulate.
