Expat Exchange Community Rules

Expat Exchange's rules are designed to create an environment that fosters a free exchange of ideas about topics relevant to expats.

Posting messages or materials that interfere with others ability or desire to contribute to this environment is not permitted. If something was rejected prior to being posted, or it was posted and has since been deleted, it is due to a violation of Expat Exchange's community rules.

Here are our basic rules (Last Updated November 2, 2022):

1. Please consider carefully what personal information information that you share with others when posting on our forums. As a matter of personal safety, we recommend refraining from posting your e-mail address, telephone number, address and real name on our forums. Read More
2. Explicit or implied threats of violence or intimidation will not be tolerated. Graphic images of violence are not permitted.
3. Harassment of, or hateful conduct toward, other members (or groups of people) is not permitted.
4. Expat Exchangeis not the place for political discussions. We have always strived to be a supportive place where people can share important information about moving and living abroad without politics turning our members against one another. Please refrain from posting about politics. While some slightly off-topic discussions are permitted, contentious discussions of politics unrelated to specific relocation-related policies, medical controversies, etc. are not permitted.
5. Explicit materials or explicit discussions on the forum of a sexual/adult nature are forbidden. Posts that may contribute to the creation of a sexually lewd or vulgar environment are not permitted and will be blocked or removed at our discretion.
6. Promotional Posts - You may not add overly promotional posts about your product, service or other business without offering valuable information about living abroad that is relevant to specific forum discussions. Those interested can may contact us about partnering with Expat Exchange.
7. Posters who engage in obvious attempts to damage Expat Exchange, its reputation, or drive our members to competitive sites or other online groups will be warned and/or banned at our discretion.
8. Online interaction with others is complex and can be frustrating. However, people respectfully holding an opinion that differs from yours is not abuse. While it is sometimes necessary to discuss politics relevant to life abroad and specific situations, posts that contain personal attacks directed at specific individuals are not allowed. Members that engage in this behavior will be warned and/or banned at our discretion. Expat Exchange will block or remove forum topics and replies at its sole discretion.
9. Replies to forum posts should be on topic. Messages unrelated to the topic will be deleted. Topics that stray far off topic will be closed at our discretion.
10. Members may not routinely try to convince people not to move or travel to a particular country or city. It is perfectly fine to offer your opinion, but a pattern of posting that creates a negative environment on the forums for everyone, including those who enjoy living in or researching a country or city that you do not, is not permitted.
11. Expat Exchange reserves the sole right to determine what does and does not violate the rules above, and to update them at any time.
12. Expat Exchange members who violate these rules will be suspended or blocked at our discretion.
