Summit

Suburban

Summit, NJ is a small, affluent city located in Union County, New Jersey, known for its beautiful residential neighborhoods, vibrant downtown, and excellent public services. The city boasts a rich history, with many homes and buildings reflecting Victorian and Colonial architectural styles.

Downtown Summit is a hub of activity, featuring a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes, as well as a farmers market and numerous community events throughout the year. The city is also known for its green spaces, including the expansive Watchung Reservation on its border and several well-maintained parks, which provide residents with ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Summit's Municipal Golf Course - "the Muni" - is a Par 3, 9-hole executive course designed by renowned golf architect, Hal Purdy. The course covers 13 acres of land that was once a private estate. There are numerous other golf and tennis options in and around the town.

Summit offers all kinds of arts experiences for residents and the broader area. Summit Playhouse offers 3 mainstage shows a year, and it hosts the Kaleidoscope Youth Theater, which creates quality drama for youth, and offers experience in "all aspects of the theatre - acting, directing, costuming, set design, stage management, lighting and sound - with Playhouse regulars acting as mentors to young artists." Additionally, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey offers exhibitions, a studio school and a wide variety of other programs.

Summit is also considered highly desirable for commuters for its proximity to New York City. It is an important hub in that it is the Morris and Essex railway point at which the Morristown line and Gladstone branch separate (heading away from New York City) and come together (heading toward New York City). This makes Summit an ideal location for those who want to use NJ Transit trains to go to any point on either of those train lines.

Summit Library is an excellent facility that is widely used by its residents, as it provides a wide range of community services and programs for kids and teens.

Cost of Living

Summit's cost of living is high, with housing being a significant factor. The city's desirable amenities, proximity to New York City, and strong school system contribute to the higher cost of living.

Weather

Summit experiences a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons, including hot, humid summers and cold winters with variable amounts of snow.
