Summary: Living it Up in Aviemore: Your Insider's Guide to Top Attractions, Culinary Hotspots, Nightlife, and More. Discover the Best Recreational Activities, Connect with Friendly Locals, and Experience the Charm of the City.

Welcome to Aviemore! If you're planning to move to Aviemore, congratulations on taking the first step towards a new adventure. While there are many things to think about before you leave, such as visas, housing, and transportation, it's important to remember that once you arrive, the fun really begins. In this article, we'll introduce you to some of the best sites, restaurants, and nightlife that Aviemore has to offer, as well as provide tips on recreational activities and making friends in Aviemore.

Aviemore, located in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland, is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. One of the main attractions is the Cairngorm Mountain, which offers stunning views and a range of activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and hill-walking. The mountain's funicular railway, which is currently under renovation, is also a popular attraction, providing a unique way to ascend the mountain. The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre is another must-visit, where visitors can meet and feed Britain's only free-ranging herd of reindeer. For wildlife enthusiasts, the RSPB Loch Garten Osprey Centre provides the opportunity to see these magnificent birds in their natural habitat.

Aviemore is also home to the Strathspey Steam Railway, a heritage railway that offers a nostalgic journey through the stunning Scottish Highlands. The Rothiemurchus Estate, a historic and beautiful Highland estate, offers activities such as clay pigeon shooting, fishing, and off-road driving. For those interested in history, the Highland Folk Museum provides an insight into Highland life in the past, with a collection of historic buildings and artefacts.

Aviemore's restaurant scene offers a range of options, from traditional Scottish fare to international cuisine. The Old Bridge Inn is a popular choice, known for its cosy atmosphere, live music, and menu featuring local produce. For a fine dining experience, The Rowan Tree Country Hotel Restaurant offers a menu of Scottish and European dishes, with stunning views over the Cairngorms. The Winking Owl, owned by the local Cairngorm Brewery, is a favourite for its range of local ales and hearty pub food.

For a night out, The Vault is a popular choice. This lively bar offers a range of cocktails, craft beers, and live music. The Cairngorm Hotel, known locally as 'The Cairn', is a traditional Highland hotel with a lively bar offering local ales, whiskies, and regular live music. For a quieter evening, the Speyside Distillery offers tours and tastings of their single malt Scotch whisky.

Recreational activities in Aviemore are largely centred around the great outdoors. The Cairngorms National Park offers a range of activities, from hiking and mountain biking to wildlife watching and fishing. The park is home to several Munros (mountains over 3000 feet), providing a challenge for keen hillwalkers. In winter, the Cairngorm Mountain becomes a hub for snowsports, with a range of slopes for skiing and snowboarding.

For water sports enthusiasts, Loch Morlich Watersports offers a range of activities including sailing, windsurfing, and paddleboarding. The loch is also a beautiful spot for a picnic or a swim. The Rothiemurchus Estate offers a range of outdoor activities, including quad biking, horse riding, and clay pigeon shooting. For those looking for a more relaxed activity, the Spey Valley Golf Course offers a challenging course with stunning views over the Cairngorms.
