Welcome to Rocha! If you're planning to move to Rocha, congratulations on taking the first step towards a new adventure. While there are many things to think about before you leave, such as visas, housing, and transportation, it's important to remember that once you arrive, the fun really begins. In this article, we'll introduce you to some of the best sites, restaurants, and nightlife that Rocha has to offer, as well as provide tips on recreational activities and making friends in Rocha.

Rocha, is a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. One of the most popular sites is the Santa Teresa National Park, a sprawling 3000-hectare park with a rich variety of flora and fauna. It also houses a historic fortress, Fortaleza de Santa Teresa, which dates back to the 18th century. Another must-visit is the Cabo Polonio National Park, known for its stunning sand dunes, lighthouse, and sea lion colonies. The park is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. For beach lovers, La Paloma and La Pedrera offer beautiful sandy beaches, perfect for sunbathing and surfing. The Rocha Lagoon is a birdwatcher's paradise, home to over 220 bird species. The town of Rocha itself is charming, with its colonial architecture and the Church of Our Lady of Remedies, a national historic monument.

The restaurant and nightlife scene in Rocha is laid-back and relaxed, reflecting the town's beach vibe. One of the most popular restaurants is La Proa in La Paloma, known for its fresh seafood dishes and stunning ocean views. Another favorite is Lo de Ruben, a traditional Uruguayan barbecue restaurant in Rocha town. For a taste of local cuisine, visitors should head to El Viejo y El Mar in La Pedrera, which serves dishes made from locally sourced ingredients. The nightlife in Rocha is centered around its beach towns. In La Paloma, visitors can enjoy live music at pubs like El Barcito or dance the night away at the popular beach club, Moby Dick. La Pedrera, known for its bohemian vibe, offers a range of bars and clubs such as La Negra Tomasa and El Social La Pedrera.

Recreational activities in Rocha are largely centered around its natural attractions. Surfing is a popular activity, with La Paloma and La Pedrera offering excellent conditions for both beginners and experienced surfers. Several surf schools, like La Pedrera Surf School and La Paloma Surf School, offer lessons. Birdwatching is another popular activity, with the Rocha Lagoon and the wetlands of the Santa Lucia River being prime spots. For those interested in hiking and wildlife, the Santa Teresa National Park and the Cabo Polonio National Park offer numerous trails. Horseback riding is also popular, with several estancias, like Estancia El Charabon and Estancia Guardia del Monte, offering guided rides. For a unique experience, visitors can take a traditional boat tour of the Rocha Lagoon with local fishermen, or explore the sand dunes of Cabo Polonio on a 4x4 tour.
