Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Albania.

Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Albania.

Foreigners who wish to drive in Albania must have a valid international driving permit (IDP) along with their valid national driving license. The IDP is a translation of the national driving license and is valid for one year. It is important to note that the IDP is not a standalone document and must be carried along with the national driving license. Additionally, the driver must be at least 18 years old to legally drive in Albania.

As for insurance, it is mandatory to have third-party liability insurance. If the vehicle is not insured in Albania, a border insurance policy must be purchased at the border upon entry. The vehicle's registration document and a proof of ownership are also required.

It's also worth noting that seat belts are mandatory for all passengers, both in the front and back seats. The use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited, unless a hands-free system is used. The legal alcohol limit is 0.01%, which is virtually zero tolerance.

There are no specific requirements that differ based on the city, state, or region in Albania. The rules and regulations for driving are country-wide and apply to all regions equally.
