Getting a Driver's License in Philippines
Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Philippines.
Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Philippines.
Foreigners who wish to drive in the Philippines must have a valid driver's license from their home country. If the foreign license is in English and the driver is staying in the Philippines for less than 90 days, they can use their foreign license to drive. However, if the foreign license is not in English, the driver must also have an International Driving Permit (IDP) issued by their home country. If the foreigner is staying in the Philippines for more than 90 days, they must obtain a Philippine driver's license from the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
As for regional differences, the requirements for driving are generally the same across the entire country. The Philippines is a unitary state, meaning that laws and regulations, including those related to driving, are uniformly applied throughout the country. However, local government units may have specific traffic rules and regulations, so it's always a good idea to familiarize oneself with these when driving in a new area.
