Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Belize.

Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Belize.

In Belize, foreigners are allowed to drive if they possess a valid driver's license from their home country or an International Driving Permit (IDP). The license or permit must be carried at all times while driving. If a foreigner plans to stay in Belize for more than three months, they are required to apply for a Belizean driver's license. This involves passing a written test and a driving test. The applicant must also provide proof of residency in Belize.

As for regional differences, Belize is a small country with a unified system of laws, so the requirements for driving do not vary by city, state, or region. However, it's important to note that driving conditions can vary significantly across the country, and some rural areas may have poorly maintained roads. Therefore, drivers should always exercise caution and familiarize themselves with local road conditions and traffic laws.
