Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Gambia.

Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Gambia.

In Gambia, a foreigner can legally drive with an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with their valid home country's driving license. The IDP must be obtained in the driver's home country before traveling to Gambia. It's also important to note that driving is on the right-hand side of the road in Gambia.

There are no specific requirements that differ based on the city, state, or region within Gambia. However, it is always advisable to be aware of local traffic rules and regulations, which may vary slightly. It's also important to have proper vehicle documentation and insurance. Additionally, drivers should always carry identification documents, as police may request them at checkpoints.

Lastly, while not a legal requirement, it's recommended for foreigners to have a basic understanding of local languages (English is widely spoken) or have a local guide, as road signs may not always be in English or may be non-existent in some rural areas.
