Summary: Driving in a new country can be daunting. These tips offer insight into what to expect when driving in Seoul.

1. Traffic Conditions

Driving in Seoul can be quite challenging due to heavy traffic, especially during rush hours. The city is densely populated and the roads are often congested. It's also common to encounter aggressive drivers. Therefore, it's important to be patient and alert at all times.

2. Car Recommendation

Compact cars are recommended for driving in Seoul due to the narrow roads and limited parking spaces. They are easier to maneuver and park. However, if you have a family or need more space, consider a mid-size car.

3. Parking

Finding parking in Seoul can be difficult, especially in busy areas. Most parking spaces are small and require parallel parking skills. Parking fees can also be quite expensive, especially in downtown areas. It's advisable to use public transportation when going to crowded areas.

4. International Driving Permit

Foreigners can drive in Korea with an International Driving Permit (IDP) for up to one year. After that, you will need to obtain a Korean driver's license. Make sure your IDP is issued by a country that Korea recognizes.

5. Obtaining a Korean Driver's License

To get a Korean driver's license, you need to pass a written test, a practical driving test, and a physical examination. The written test is available in multiple languages including English. You can also convert your foreign license to a Korean one if your home country has a reciprocal agreement with Korea.

6. Navigation

It's advisable to use a GPS navigation system when driving in Seoul as the city has a complex road network. Most car rental companies provide cars equipped with GPS. You can also use smartphone apps like Google Maps or Naver Map.

7. Road Signs

Most road signs in Seoul are in Korean and English. However, it's a good idea to learn some basic Korean road signs and terms to make your driving experience smoother.

8. Car Rental

If you don't plan to drive regularly, consider renting a car. There are many car rental companies in Seoul that offer a wide range of vehicles at reasonable prices. Remember to check the rental agreement carefully for any hidden charges.
