Summary: If you're a newcomer in Egypt and enrolling your children in school in Egypt, here's how:

Enrolling your child in a public school in Egypt as an expat can be a complex process, especially if you are unfamiliar with the country's education system. It requires a fair amount of paperwork and understanding of the local language, Arabic. The documents you need to prepare include your child's birth certificate, passport, previous school records, and health records. Additionally, you may need to provide proof of your residency in Egypt. It's also important to note that the academic year in Egypt starts in September, so it's advisable to start the enrollment process well in advance.

  1. Research Schools: Start by researching the public schools in your area. Consider factors such as the curriculum, the school's reputation, and the distance from your home. You can do this online or by asking other expats in your community.
  2. Prepare Documents: Gather all the necessary documents. These include your child's birth certificate, passport, previous school records, and health records. If these documents are not in Arabic, you may need to get them translated.
  3. Application Form: Obtain the application form from the school. This can usually be done by visiting the school's administrative office. Fill out the form in Arabic. If you are not fluent in Arabic, consider hiring a translator to assist you.
  4. Submit Application: Submit the completed application form along with all the required documents to the school's administrative office. It's advisable to do this in person to ensure that all your documents are received and processed correctly.
  5. Entrance Exam: Depending on the school, your child may need to take an entrance exam. This is usually a basic test to assess your child's academic abilities and language proficiency.
  6. Enrollment Confirmation: Once your application has been accepted and your child has passed the entrance exam, the school will confirm your child's enrollment. This usually involves paying a small fee and receiving a confirmation letter from the school.
  7. Uniform and Supplies: Once your child is enrolled, you will need to purchase the school uniform and any necessary school supplies. The school will provide you with a list of what is required.
  8. First Day of School: Finally, prepare your child for their first day of school. This includes familiarizing them with the school's rules and routines, and ensuring they know how to get to and from school safely.
