Summary: If you're a newcomer in Grenada and enrolling your children in school in Grenada, here's how:

Enrolling your child in a public school in Grenada as an expat can be a complex process, but with the right preparation and understanding, it can be made easier. It is important to note that the Grenadian education system is based on the British system and is compulsory for children between the ages of 6 and 14. The school year runs from September to July and is divided into three terms. Before you begin the enrollment process, you will need to have several documents ready. These include your child's birth certificate, passport, immunization records, and proof of your residency in Grenada. Additionally, you may also need to provide academic records from your child's previous school.

  1. Research Schools: Start by researching the public schools in your area. Consider factors such as the school's curriculum, location, facilities, and reputation. You can do this by visiting the school's website, talking to other parents, or even visiting the school in person.
  2. Prepare Documents: Gather all the necessary documents. This includes your child's birth certificate, passport, immunization records, and proof of your residency in Grenada. If your child has previously attended school, you will also need to provide their academic records.
  3. Application Form: Obtain an application form from the school you have chosen. This can usually be done by visiting the school's office or downloading it from their website. Fill out the form with all the necessary details.
  4. Submit Application: Submit the completed application form along with all the required documents to the school's office. It's advisable to do this well in advance of the school year starting, as places can fill up quickly.
  5. Interview: Some schools may require an interview or assessment for your child. This is to assess your child's academic level and ensure they are placed in the correct class. Make sure your child is prepared for this.
  6. Acceptance: Once your application has been accepted, you will receive a letter of acceptance from the school. This will contain details about the start date, school uniform, and any other necessary information.
  7. Enrollment: Finally, you will need to confirm your child's enrollment by paying any necessary fees and purchasing the school uniform. Make sure your child is ready for their first day by familiarizing them with the school's rules and routines.
