Summary: If you're a newcomer in Nepal and enrolling your children in school in Nepal, here's how:

Enrolling your child in a public school in Nepal can be a complex process, especially for expats who are unfamiliar with the country's education system. It requires a certain amount of paperwork and understanding of the local language and procedures. The process involves obtaining the necessary documents, such as your child's birth certificate, passport, and previous school records, as well as understanding the school's admission requirements and procedures. It's also important to note that the academic year in Nepal starts in April, so it's advisable to start the enrollment process well in advance.

  1. Research Schools: Start by researching the public schools in your area. Consider factors such as the school's curriculum, teaching methods, and the language of instruction. Most public schools in Nepal teach in Nepali, but some schools offer English-medium instruction.
  2. Visit the School: Once you've shortlisted a few schools, visit them to get a feel for the environment and meet the staff. This will also give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the school's policies and procedures.
  3. Obtain the Necessary Documents: You will need to provide several documents during the enrollment process. These typically include your child's birth certificate, passport, visa, and previous school records. If these documents are not in Nepali or English, they may need to be translated.
  4. Fill Out the Application Form: Obtain the school's application form and fill it out. The form will ask for information about your child, such as their name, age, and previous education. You may also need to provide your own contact information.
  5. Submit the Application: Submit the completed application form to the school, along with the necessary documents. Some schools may also require a small application fee.
  6. Take the Entrance Test: Most public schools in Nepal require students to take an entrance test. The test usually covers subjects such as Nepali, English, and Mathematics. Your child may need to prepare for this test in advance.
  7. Wait for the Admission Decision: After your child has taken the entrance test, you will need to wait for the school to make their admission decision. This can take a few weeks. If your child is accepted, the school will provide you with further instructions on how to complete the enrollment process.
