Summary: If you're a newcomer in Uzbekistan and enrolling your children in school in Uzbekistan, here's how:

Enrolling your child in a public school in Uzbekistan can be a complex process, especially for expats who are unfamiliar with the local education system and language. It requires a certain amount of paperwork and understanding of the procedures. The documents needed include your child's birth certificate, proof of residence, and medical records. It's also important to note that the academic year in Uzbekistan starts in September, so it's advisable to start the enrollment process well in advance. This guide will provide a step-by-step process to help you navigate through the enrollment process.

  1. Firstly, you need to obtain a translated and notarized copy of your child's birth certificate. This document should be in Russian or Uzbek language. If the original birth certificate is in another language, you will need to get it translated and notarized.
  2. Secondly, you need to provide proof of your residence in Uzbekistan. This can be a rental agreement or a utility bill that clearly shows your address. This document also needs to be translated into Russian or Uzbek if it's in another language.
  3. Next, you need to provide your child's medical records. These should include a record of vaccinations and a general health check-up report. If these documents are not in Russian or Uzbek, they will need to be translated and notarized.
  4. Once you have all the necessary documents, you need to visit the local Department of Education (DoE). Here, you will fill out an application form for your child's enrollment. The staff at the DoE can assist you with filling out the form if you are not fluent in Russian or Uzbek.
  5. After submitting the application form and all the required documents, the DoE will review your application. This process can take a few weeks, so it's advisable to apply well in advance of the start of the school year.
  6. Once your application is approved, you will receive a confirmation from the DoE. This confirmation will include the details of the school where your child has been enrolled.
  7. Finally, you need to visit the school with your child. Here, you will meet with the school principal and your child's teacher. They will provide you with information about the school schedule, uniform, and other important details.
